SUCCESS & INNOVATION CENTERS

While the SUCCESS & INNOVATION CENTER at Mt Blue Campus closed in the Fall of 2020, the vision for such spaces is very much alive. In many ways, my current school, CRCS Overman, functions as a SIC at scale.

Interested in starting a SIC-inspired space in your school? Contact me and let’s talk about how we might partner to make that a reality for your learning community.

In the meantime, take a look at these overviews and frameworks.

SUCCESS & INNOVATION CENTERS

THREE KEY PURPOSES

  • Academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary coaching for learners
  • Instructional and professional coaching for faculty and staff
  • Fostering access to 21st century learning and teaching opportunities for all members of the school community

MISSION

A Success and Innovation Center exists to provide a human-centered, empathy-driven problem solving studio for all students, faculty and staff.  Much as the library supports open access to information, a SIC supports open access to multiple pathways for achieving one’s academic, social-emotional and professional aspirations.  Through a balance of coaching, advocacy, and outreach, a SIC empowers learners students to discover and create solutions to the challenges they face, while building capacity of faculty and staff to provide increasingly effective and innovative instruction.  As a result of the SIC, learners and staff become more resilient problem solvers, more resourceful critical thinkers, and more capable contributors to a 21st century world of work.

ROLE of the DIRECTOR

The Success and Innovation Center (SIC) Director collaborates with students and faculty:

  • To identify needs and design solutions to meet those needs
  • To demonstrate content area standards and habits of work
  • To facilitate connections to resources throughout the school and greater communities
  • To provide support and advocacy for non-traditional pathways to high school graduation and post-secondary opportunities.

The number of students who graduate high school on time and engage in post-secondary opportunities should increase as a result of the efforts of the SIC Director

ROLE of the ED TECH

  • To manage the day to day operations of the physical Success & Innovation Center including student usage, learning materials, and space organization
  • To provide social-emotional support and learning for students who are struggling to maintain successful pathways
  • To manage and collate data related to the use of the Success & Innovation Center
  • To assist the SIC Director in achieving the defined purposes and mission of the Success & Innovation Center
